Both of our sons (now 9 & 6 years old) attend Balanced Martial Arts. We started there, a year and a half ago. Balanced Marshall Arts has really helped our oldest son become a more complete person by helping him earn a sense of confidence and self-ownership in a nurturing environment. For example, he used to hardly speak up in school, but through his classes at Balanced he has been given the opportunity to be a "mini-Sensei", which has given him more ability to speak up in smaller groups at school. We have also noticed improvements in his behavior and outlook on chores and homework for which we cannot take 100% credit.

At Balanced, the martial arts instruction is excellent and the instructors to a person are caring and passionate individuals. But, the holistic nature of the instruction, the focus on character formation and the development of leadership qualities sets Balanced apart from other places.

In short, Balanced Martial Arts through its excellent instruction instills positive attributes that kids can apply throughout their lives and gives students the opportunities, discipline and challenges they need when they need it.

Everything is so organized and precise. They are committed to seeing the progress for each child that is aligned with what the parents want from day 1. You definitely want to give BMA a try!

My son has thrived here. They are great with special needs kids and at reinforcing positive values such as respect and discipline into the everyday. The senseis balance the serious nature of the lessons with some humor as is age appropriate. My son wouldn’t play any sports but has enjoyed coming here and continues to engage and improve. They also are good at knowing if your kid is “ready” and won’t just take your money and sign you up if your kid is not quite able to participate in a meaningful way. (I had another studio try to sign us up when my kid was just running laps around the room. We waited a couple years and Balanced was able to admit my oldest but told us to give a younger child a little more time to mature before starting, which I agreed with.) They are very professional and have a whole curriculum that extends beyond the walls of the studio if parents and kids can engage with at home.

My son started last Halloween and was terrified to go into class. Once he eased in, we started going every week and haven’t stopped since . He was determined to get his white belt, even more focused when he got his yellow belt, and now has his eyes on the orange belt. Both my boys love BMA. The instructors are incredible and make learning fun. They take the time to really get to know each student, and the encouragement they have provided both my sons has been priceless. My kids also love all the different activities BMA offers including pizza night, nerf night, and video game night. We have been going here for over two years and even though there are multiple dojos closer to our home, we will not move. The staff is engaging and the senseis know all of the students by name. My boys (11 and 8) have been attending Balanced for 3.5 years and they liked it so much, that I too joined a month after they did. We’re all Red Belts now, working our way towards Black. I cannot praise the excellent teaching staff enough: they really care about their students, and more than “here’s how to punch and kick” - the children’s curriculum integrates important life skills like respecting one’s parents, proactively helping the family at home, and how to effectively stand up to bullies in difficult situations. My boys’ confidence has grown along with their self-defense. In terms of adult classes, they’re typically small-group which really helps accelerate learning, and funny enough, half my fellow students in adult classes are also parents of Balanced kids. I strongly recommend Balanced Martial Arts for both kids and parents - you’ll benefit as much as we have.

Balanced Martial Arts has been a great experience for me and my oldest son (6 years old). We've both been training and learning for about a year now, and it's been invaluable in so many different ways.

For children, the instruction is hands-on and highly personal from individuals who have dedicated years - if not decades - of their lives to martial arts. While I appreciate and value the volunteer coaches in traditional stick & ball sports (I'm one of them), the difference in having professionals who live and breathe what they're teaching everyday is substantial.

Beyond the physical, for children they're also taught how to be better as people during in-class lessons. Being respectful, listening to other, demonstrating discipline, and learning how to deal with the very real everyday facets of their young lives, such as bullies, as been tremendous.

As an adult, it's opened me up to a vibrant community of individuals who are looking for additional ways to grow no matter what age they are. Egos are put aside and everyone in the classes are truly looking out for each other to improve, and this can be credited to the instruction and direction we receive from the senseis.

If you're looking to find a sense of accomplishment apart from your career, which often (though not always) our primary barometer for that feeling (accomplishment), then I'd urge you to give this a try.

There are at least two dozen other places offering martial arts classes closer to us, but we don't mind the drive to come to BMA. The instructors are incredibly supportive and have high expectations for their students, but they balance that with a soft and lighthearted teaching approach that makes learning enjoyable.

The community here, both students and teachers, is amazing. From the very first class, new students are made to feel like they belong, and it's been a wonderful experience for my son. He started classes last year and has grown in so many ways since.

What sets BMA apart is that the lessons taught inside the dojo extend beyond it. They've created opportunities for our whole family to be part of our son's journey and growth. We can't say enough amazing things about this special place—it’s worth every mile of the drive!
