Alex’s Black Belt Story

Meet Alex-

Alex started his martial arts journey at 4 years old when he began doing sessions with Sensei Jeff as an after-school activity at his nursery school.. At the end of the program, Alex earned his white belt, and began taking classes at the dojo. 5 years later, Alex earned his first degree black belt in 2020.

Alex joined the Leadership Team when he was 6 years old, and committed himself to being a black belt leader! Alex’s parents said, “When he started Leadership Team, we saw him mature both physically and mentally as he was expected to complete assessments and reading at home. This was also the time when we realized that he was starting to look up to the older children in his class and view the more experienced students as role models.” Now that Alex is almost 12, he is the “older” student in the class that the younger students are looking up to. He is usually the first one to volunteer to help the lower students during class as well. When writing out his goals after his black belt promotion, Alex listed his leadership skills as something he would like to improve upon even more. He said, “I’d like to go on and be able to help people with their training.”

Throughout the years, Alex’s respect has been worth noting. Alex’s parents share, “as he progressed through the belts and matured we saw the respect he developed…” Now, that respect has grown even more, so much so that when asked about what makes Alex exceptional, his parents said “Alex cares about his friends and their feelings and always shows concern for family. He asks you how you are feeling and will try and help you when he can.”

Alex has matured from a young preschooler to an exceptional Black Belt Leader, and we could not be prouder of him!
